Dr. David Taylor is a clinical assistant professor in the Department Physical Therapy. He joined the Department of Physical Therapy faculty in July 2011. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Physical Therapy, and Bachelor of Science from Emory University. He holds a graduate certificate in Health-Focused Patient/Client Management for Physical and Occupational Therapists from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He is board certified in Geriatric Physical Therapy. He has practiced as a physical therapist since 1992, working clinically and administratively in a variety of settings, across the care continuum with an emphasis on older adults.

Dr. Taylor’s is currently the Director of Clinical Education. Beyond his responsibility for the oversight of all components of the clinical education curriculum within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, he teaches in courses related to health promotion and wellness, geriatric physical therapy, and health policy and payment.

His research addresses the physical therapist’s role in health promotion, wellness, and fall prevention, particularly in older adults. He is investigating the benefits of the Annual PT Checkup for health promotion in older adults and characteristics of walking as physical activity related to health.

He has presented nationally and across Georgia and is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia, and the Georgia Falls Free Coalition. Dr. Taylor serves as the Georgia Advocacy Chair for the APTA’s Academy on Geriatrics, and was awarded the 2014 Lynn Phillipi Advocacy for Older Adults Award from Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy for providing strong models of effective advocacy for older adults.
