Dr. Timothy J. McMahon

Dr. McMahon is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Physical Therapy and Clinic Director of Mercer Physical Therapy.  He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Montana in 2013 and his Master of Physical Therapy degree from Emory University in 1990. He is certified as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.

Dr. McMahon has over 25 years of clinical experience primarily in orthopaedics.  His areas of clinical expertise are in orthopaedics, manual therapy, and sports rehabilitation. Dr. McMahon has earned certifications in spinal manipulation and manual therapy.

Dr. McMahon’s current teaching responsibilities include advanced orthopaedic examination and interventions in Mercer’s Orthopaedic Residency Program and the Fellowship in Manual Physical Therapy.  He also provides lectures on foundational principles and concepts, and provides clinical mentoring, in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

His research interests lie in the areas of the efficacy of manual therapy techniques, assessment of abnormal movement patterns, and EMG analysis of exercise progressions.

Dr. McMahon is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), APTA Georgia, the Academy of Orthopaedics, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.
