Dr. Mary Mathis is an Associate Professor of Practice and Director of the Bachelor of Science in Public Health program for the College of Health Professions.  Dr. Mathis joined the university as an instructor in the School of Medicine in 2000.

Dr. Mathis earned her Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree in Leadership from Georgia Southern University Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health in 2012.  She earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in 2000 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1998 from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA.

Her teaching responsibilities include topics related to management & leadership, health across the life course, health systems and services, and other public health courses.  Her research interests include healthcare access, rural health, aging populations, and curriculum development.

Dr. Mathis is an active member of the Association for Teaching and Prevention Research and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health Undergraduate Public Health and Global Health Education Summit.  She is an active board member of the Georgia Rural Health Association and faculty advisor for the Mercer Rural Health Association.  Dr. Mathis received the Bibb County Distinguished Service to the Community Award in 2005 and Mercer Master of Public Health Teacher of the Year Award in 2013.
